Dr. Kimberly Milhoan
was blessed to be raised in a churchgoing home. She began a consistent walk with Jesus Christ as Lord of her life in 1996. She graduated from Stanford in 1990 with a BA in Human Biology. After four years as a healthcare management consultant, she entered UC Davis School of Medicine and received her MD in 1998. She met and married Dr. Kirk Milhoan in 1997. After taking some time off for full-time motherhood, she completed a transitional year internship in general medicine at Mercy Hospital in San Diego in July 2001 and an anesthesiology residency at UT Health Science Center in San Antonio in June 2005. She now specializes in pediatric cardiac anesthesiology, is an assistant clinical professor at UTHSCSA, and works for the Tejas Anesthesia Pediatric Division in San Antonio, TX.
Dr. Kirk Milhoan
became a Christian when he was 15 through Campus Life. He received his BA from PLNU. He received his PhD from UCSD, he received his MD from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. He performed his pediatric residency in the Air Force at David Grant Medical Center at Travis AFB and his pediatric Cardiology Fellowship at San Diego Children’s Hospital. He finished his service in the Air Force in 2009 and since then has been primarily traveling to serve children around the world that do not have access to adequate pediatric cardiac care. He and Kim started For Hearts and Souls in 2001.
The major outreach of For Hearts and Souls is currently taking place in Mongolia, Zambia, Kosovo, and Mexico. At the present, most of our heart-related work is being performed in Mongolia, where God has planted us to screen and diagnose heart problems and perform heart-saving surgeries.
In the event that we are unable to treat a patient surgically within the country of Mongolia, we have been blessed to partner with Samaritan’s Purse, offering us the opportunity to transport patients to the United States for life-changing and life-saving operations.
Along with our heart care efforts, we feel blessed to be able to offer our services to orphans in need in accordance with God’s Word “Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: To visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.” James 1:27
Jesus commanded us to visit orphans and widows, lending aid to those often deemed unworthy by the world. But in the Father’s eyes they are beautiful and worthy and He has a great reward prepared for those who keep His commands and do His healing work. For in His Word, he invites us to, “Come, you blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: For I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me….inasmuch as you did it to the least of these my brethren, you did it to Me.” Matt. 25: 34-35, 40.
That is our mission: To provide for Zambia’s “least of these,” offering meals, beds, medical care, a chance at life off the streets and, most importantly, the opportunity to receive everlasting life through Jesus Christ.
In addition, we feel privileged to have been invited to visit countries such as Sudan, Uzbekistan, Kenya and Tibet to see patients with heart-related issues. In the future, with God’s blessing, we hope to continue these visits and expand the realm of heart diagnosis and treatment for patients in need throughout the world.
Praise God for His provision and this exciting opportunity to serve His children!
